LGBT in Cinemalaya 2012

Hello! Whattarainyweek! :)
yesterday i tried my best to go despite the upsetting weather. but fear of infection from flood, fear of flu from getting rained down, fear of being late from traffic/not getting a ride prevented me from going. so you can call me fearsome firewomyn. sigh.

today i braved the typhoon and flood, and was able to watch Cinemalaya finally! seen Diablo, Aparisyon and Requieme. will watch some more next weekend. :)

reviewing the lineup, and to help us support our LGBT friends/family, here's an LGBT guide in this year's Cinemalaya. :)

with lgbt theme:
  • Requieme - about a young transgender (New Breed)
  • Bwakaw - about an old gay man (Director's Cut)
  • Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino - well, it's about diving for tahong/mussels. certainly there's a flesh of lesbian in it (metaphorically). lol!
with lgbt cast
  • Posas - John Lapus
  • Requieme - Anthony Falcon, Roeder Camañag. etc.
  • Diablo - Roeder Camañag
  • Bwakaw - Joey Paras, Soxie Topacio, Eddie Garcia (he admitted in an interview that he had sexual experience with a man in his youth)
films with cast members who played LGBT roles in the past
  • Aparisyon - Mylene Dizon (lesbian in Rome and Juliet)
  • Ang Katiwala - Dennis Trillo (transgender in Aishite Imasu 1941: Mahal Kita)
  • Mga Mumunting Lihim - Judy Ann Santos (bisexual in Sabel)
  • Requieme - Sharmaine Buencamino (lesbian in Niño)
films i recommend:
  • Aparisyon - superb visuals and acting!
  • Requieme - positive depiction of a loving gay/transgender relationship and a gay man's /transgender's  compassion. very good story.
  • Bwakaw - funny trailer. fan of eddie garcia and joey paras. will watch next week
  • Mga Mumunting Lihim - interesting plot. want to see how a full mainstream cast fares in Indie.
  • Ang Nawawala - music as backdrop, fast-paced in the mold of mtv. seems fun.
  • Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino - am a fan of jm de guzman (from Ang Babae sa Septic Tank and Pangarap Lang Kita mtv). and for obvious reason, tahong/mussels always interest me. :D

All the full length film entries in Cinemalaya with background & their gala screening schedule

 OROS by Paul Sta. Ana

Gala: July 23, Mon 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: The owner of a funeral parlor sells a cadaver to a saklaan kasero named Makoy. He and his brother, Abet, then stage a three-week-long fake wake to make a profit.

Who’s Starring: Kristoffer King, Tanya Gomez and Kristofer Martin
Who’s Directing: Paul Sta. Ana (Marino and Huling Pasada; he also wrote award-winning screenplays such as Mayohan and Bisperas)

Why We’re Excited: It’s always fun to watch witty takes on Pinoy culture.

BWAKAW by Jun Robles Lana
Gala: July 23, Mon 9:00PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: An aging, lonely gay man waits out the twilight of his life. He even sleeps in his own coffin—symbolism and laughs in one scene? We'll take it! Will heartwarming redemption and pathos spring from the cute little dog that he adopts?

Who’s Starring: Eddie Garcia, Rez Cortez, Gardo Versoza, Joey Paras, Allan Paule, Armida Siguion-Reyna, Beverly Salvejo, Soxie Topacio, Luz Valdez
Who’s Directing: Jun Lana (the youngest Palanca Hall of Fame awardee and screenwriter of Jose Rizal and Muro Ami)

Why We’re Excited: The film promises to juggle some heavy narrative archetypes with a lighthearted, appealing touch.

KALAYAAN by Adolfo B. Alix Jr.
Gala: July 24, Tue 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: We're certain that the title carries more metaphorical weight, but at face value, the movie is named after the far-off Kalayaan islands in Palawan, where a group of soldiers must grapple with the psychological effects of loneliness and isolation.

Who’s Starring: Ananda Everingham, Luis Alandy, Zanjoe Marudo, Rocky Salumbides, Angela Bayani
Who’s Directing: Adolfo Alix Jr. (Manila, Donsol, Chassis, Kadin, screenwriter for Ang Munting Tinig)

Why We’re Excited: As evidenced by the Piolo Pascual-starrer Manila, Adolfo Alix Jr. has a way of coaxing great performances out of beefcake stars who play roles in films named after places.

SANTA NIñA by Emmanuel Quindo Palo
Gala: July 24, Tue 9:00PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: The beguiling video teasers don't say much, but Santa Nina tells the story of a father whose child is buried in a lahar flow in Bacolor back in 1995. Fast-forward to ten years later: the perfectly-preserved remains of the child are uncovered, and the father begins a campaign to elevate his kid to sainthood.

Who’s Starring: Coco Martin, Alessandra de Rossi, Anita Linda, Angel Aquino, Irma Adlawan, Nanding Josef, Lui Manansala, Joe Gruta, Bea Garcia, Dax Alejandro, Rie Batingana
Who’s Directing: Emmanuel Q. Palo (this is his first feature-length film)

Why We’re Excited: It's no secret that we're partial to Coco Martin's talent around here...especially when he's about to tackle meaty issues like faith and salvation.

ANG KATIWALA by Aloy Adlawan
Gala: July 25, Wed 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: Ruben takes on the job as a caretaker of an abandoned property in Quezon City which was once owned by a prominent figure in the Philippines. When a reporter interviews him about the house’s history, Ruben is shamed, realizing he knows nothing about the owner. With newfound vigor, he begins reading up on the man and his fascination borders on obsession. So much so that his friend, Gimo, even jokes that he is being possessed by the soul of his new hero.

Who’s Starring: Dennis Trillo, Ronnie Lazaro, Angelina Canapi, Althea Vega, Miggs Cuaderno, Neri Naig, Ernie Zarate, Shyr Valdez, Richard Manabat, Louella de Cordova, Aileen Lota, and Dado Jose
Who’s Directing: Aloy Adlawan (Room Boy, Signos)

Why We’re Excited: Ang Katiwala was based on a real-life predicament when a property with seemingly high historical value was put on the market. We want to see how the award-winning director jazzed it up for film.
MGA MUMUNTING LIHIM by Jose Javier Reyes
Gala: July 25, Wed 9:00PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: Let's try this in over-dramatic Hollywood teaser style: Four best friends. One death. A threatened friendship.

Who’s Starring: Judy Ann Santos, Iza Calzado, Janice de Belen, Agot Isidro
Who’s Directing: Jose Javier Reyes (Batang PX, Kasal Kasali Kasalo)

Why We’re Excited: Four heavyweight actresses in one indie film. Need we say any more?

 APARISYON by Vincent Sandoval
Gala: July 26, Thu 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)

What’s It About: The peace at the Adoration Monastery is disrupted when an extern nun, Remy, learns that her left-leaning brother has gone missing. Despite failing to obtain a leave of absence from the Mother Superior, Remy smuggles a pocket radio into the cloisters in her desperation to listen to the news. Lourdes, a novice nun, sympathizes with Remy, and volunteers to be an extern herself. Together, they start attending meetings of families with missing relatives. As the pair heads back to the monastery after one clandestine gathering, they are accosted by men and Lourdes is discovered the next day, hurt and sexually abused. The incident shocks the monastery and stirs political consciousness among the nuns.

Who’s Starring: Mylene Dizon, Jodi Sta. Maria, Fides Cuyogan-Asencio, Racquel Villavicencio, Rustica Carpio
Who’s Directing: Vincent Sandoval (Señorita)

Why We’re Excited: Director Vincent Sandoval revealed during a press conference that Aparisyon was a very visual film. “Its most arresting and powerful scenes are its quietest,” he said, hinting at a four-minute scene where Dizon and Sta. Maria had a powerful, emotional exchange sans dialogue.

MGA DAYO by Julius Sotomayor Cena
Gala: July 27, Fri 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: Three separate lives meet in this insightful drama set during Thanksgiving in Guam. A newspaper photographer consents to a “green card marriage,” a journalist tries to repair her relationship with her American husband, and a hotel housekeeper brings her ailing 88-year-old mother to the States, only to struggle to send her back to the Philippines—three stories about decisions, sacrifices, and finding home.

Who’s Starring: Sue Prado, Olga Natividad, Janela Carrera
Who’s Directing: Julius Sotomayor-Cena (Lutrina, Dito Sa Lupa)

Why We’re Excited: This is the first Cinemalaya entry to be filmed overseas!

THE ANIMALS by Gino M. Santos

Gala: July 27, Fri 9:00PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)

What’s It About: A day in the life of the ultra-privileged, when school is out and the party begins. The title's not just for show, too; we fully expect the three characters—Jake, Trina, and Alex—to take a walk on the wild side before the party winds down.

Who’s Starring: Albie Casiño, Patrick Sugui, Dawn Balagot, Issa Litton, Micah Cabral, Vangie Martelle, John Wayne Sace, Bryan Homecillo, Carlo Cruz, Andrew Felix
Who’s Directing: Gino M. Santos (this is his first feature-length film)

Why We’re Excited: Pinoy indie film is sometimes unfairly skewered as "poverty porn"—an affectation that forms the meat of last year's Cinemalaya darling Ang Babae sa Septic Tank—and we're curious to see how newcomer Gino Santos flips the coin over to the hyper-affluent. Will he go for a skewering...or sympathy?

past galas

 ANG NAWAWALA by Marie Jamora

July 21, Sat 3:30PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: This film revolves around Gibson Bonifacio, a 20-year-old returning to Manila after studying abroad. While adjusting to his life back home, he reconnects with his childhood best friend and they begin a romance. In the end, Bonifacio revives his relationship with his family and friends while discovering himself along the way.

Who’s Starring: Dominic Roco, Felix Roco, Annicka Dolonius, Alchris Galura, Mercedes Cabral, Kelvin Yu, Jenny Jamora, Marc Abaya, Sabrina Man, Boboy Garrovillo, and Dawn Zulueta
Who’s Directing: Marie Jamora (her resume includes several music videos and the first season of Project Runway Philippines)

Why We’re Excited: Not only is this Marie Jamora’s (much-anticipated) first full-length film, it also gives us a peek into the Pinoy music scene.
INTOY SYOKOY NG KALYE MARINO by Lemuel Lorca
July 21, Sat 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: Adapted from the eponymous Palanca-winning short story by Eros Atalia, Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino is the love story between a tahong diver (the best in town) and his lifelong love, a prostitute named Doray Langaw.

Who’s Starring: JM de Guzman, LJ Reyes, and Joross Gamboa
Who’s Directing: Lemuel Lorca

Why We’re Excited: The Batang Ama star confessed that diving in the murky waters of Sangley Point was a difficult experience. “Mabaho talaga... (may lumulutang na) napkin, used napkin. (May mga dumi ng tao) hindi ko na nakikita usually 'yon, pero naamoy ko at nalasahan...” recalled de Guzman in a PEP.ph interview. We just want to check if the sacrifice was worth it.
KAMERA OBSKURA by Raymond Red
July 21, Sat 9:00PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)

What’s It About: A purported "long-lost film from the archives of Philippine cinema", Kamera Obskura is a legendary director's hallucinatory film-within-a-film imagining of what a Filipino expressionist film of the silent era would be like.

Who’s Starring: Pen Medina, Joel Torre, Nanding Josef, Ping Medina, Lou Veloso
Who’s Directing: Raymond Red (Sakay, Bangin)

Why We’re Excited: You can't get any more ambitious in this year's Cinemalaya than this flick. Let's quote the director himself (courtesy of The Philippine Star) on what his aim was for Kamera Obskura: "To conjure up a film from a period that did not really exist in Philippine cinema's historical cultural heritage."

DIABLO by Mes de Duzman
July 22, Sun 12:45PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: So, unfortunately, we can't find any video trailer for Diablo on the Internet (if you know of any, please give us a tip in the comments). But the premise is intriguing enough: a long-suffering matriarch, five wastrel sons, the fatal stabbing of one of the said sons, and the crackling, emotional family reunion that's sure to follow.

Who’s Starring: Ama Quiambao, Carlo Aquino, Althea Vega, Jose Escobedo, Arnold Reyes, Roeder Camañag, Fredie dela Cruz
Who’s Directing: Mes De Guzman (short film Batang Trapo and feature The Road to Kalimugtong)

Why We’re Excited: Mes De Guzman's independent, Nueva Vizcaya-based work ethic has paid off in the past: his past films have nabbed grand prizes in festivals in Africa, Europe, and North America.

REQUIEME! by Loy Arcenas
July 22, Sun 6:15PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It’s About: Swanie, a barangay chair and distant relative of a killer, attempts to curry political favor by staging a wake for her notorious kin. Meanwhile, miles away, her son tries to give his neighbor a proper funeral. Still, in another seemingly unrelated circumstance, an estranged mother and son portray their own dealing with “death”—and in a very unusual way. The three stories intertwine to give a showcase of Pinoy culture and our penchant for turning funerals into a fiesta.

Who’s Starring: Shamaine Centenera Buencamino, Rez Cortez, Anthony Falcon, Paul Jake Paule, Renner Concepcion, Garry Lim, Angelita Raymundo, Skyzx Labastilla, Jelson Bay, Roli Inocencio, Lila Cuntapay, Antonette Garcia, Ces Aldaba and Lou Veloso
Who’s Directing: Loy Arcenas (Niño)

Why We’re Excited: Arcenas’ first attempt with Niño last year was brilliant so we have very high hopes for his second film.
POSAS by Lawrence Fajardo
July 22, Sun 9:00PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theatre)
What’s It About: We don't mean to be facetious, but it seems strangely appropriate that a director named "Law" is tackling this story about a petty thief caught by the police—and by a downward-spiraling web of torture, corruption, and bureaucracy.

Who’s Starring: Nico Antonio, Bangs Garcia, John Lapus, Susan Africa, and Art Acuna
Who’s Directing: Law Fajardo (Amok)

Why We’re Excited: The waterboard torture scene of star Nico Antonio? It's 100% real. The dedication of the cast and crew seems to have paid off...This film entry was shortlisted in the Un Certain Regard category of the famed Cannes Film Festival.

LGBT Children Story in the Philippines

with pride, i share to you the first ever children story in the Philippines with lesbian parents in the characters and the theme (that i know of). =) this is a happy and momentous day! :)

ricey, racy, let's see

in the first place, you make racy sound bad. racy is good! even great! it's something we need and want otherwise sports illustrated, fhm, rogue, etc won't flourish. what is life if racy is non-existent?! dead b-o-r-i-n-g! if i had 3% body fat like Stephanie Rice, damn! i would not just wear racy suits, i might even walk around naked!

like the author below, i don't effin understand the fuss about her suit. i mean, swimsuits are somewhat a uniform for swimmers right? i also know the bottom part of the swimsuit is excitingly, pulsatingly low. s-o w-h-a-t?! it's not like she'll wear that during competition! and because i am a strong supporter and advocate of racy, err, i mean stephanie rice, more pix of her at the bottom for our racy minds' pleasure =) go rice! :)

*this is one of my tambak labada posts, which i didn't have time to post sooner. i posted really nice extra photos of her as my way of apology :)*

Stephanie Rice, gold-medal swimmer, criticized for wearing racy swimsuit

Swimmer Stephanie Rice, who swims for a living while wearing a swimsuit in a swimming pool, is catching flak in her native Australia for tweeting a picture of herself in a swimsuit. The nerve of some people.

The three-time gold medalist took the shot of herself wearing a birthday gift from designer Ellie Gonsalves and posted it on Twitter. It made figurative waves one month before she defends her Olympic titles in both individual medleys.

Some Twitter commenters thought it was another disgrace to an Australian swim team that's recently dealt with a gun controversy. There was also concern that Rice's sponsor, Speedo, would be upset by the photo because -- I don't know -- they don't like free publicity? But, rest assured, Rice isn't even with Speedo anymore!

Oh, how you disappointment me my Aussie friends. I can see how this would be a big deal in America, what with our Puritanical sensibilities and penchant for affected moral outrage. But in Australia? The land founded as a penal colony where everyone's laid back, even when comparing the size of their knives? She's a swimmer in a swimsuit! That's like getting upset at Michael Phelps for walking around shirtless. Plus, isn't it like 115 degrees during Melbourne summers? I just assumed everyone walked around like this.
My theory: This controversy was ginned up so papers in Australia had a legitimate reason to run the photo. For shame, y'all. We'd never stoop so low in the United States. (See below for more Rice photos.)

Despite the absurdity over the uproar, Stephanie isn't necessarily in the right. Doesn't she know the rule about taking racy photos of yourself in the mirror and sending them over social networks? Angle the phone to the right so the flash doesn't obscure your face! Or don't take them. Yeah, that's what I'm probably supposed to say there.

even fully clothed, she is racy hot. i mean, just look at those arms!

Hanap Buhay, Hanap Biyaya

Da more da many! :)

After two years, ngayon lang uli ako lalabas ng bansa.

Bwahaha!). Pero handa na kong lumabas at tuklasin hindi lamang and world wide web at world peace, kundi pati ang a whole new world! *sabay kanta... A whole new world.. A dazzling place i never knew....* Hahaha. *parang baliw lang*

Ngayon alam nyo na! Nakakalulong ang mangarap :) at nakakaloka pag unti unti nang nagkakatotoo ang lahat ng pinapangarap. =)

Celebrities who came OUT so far in 2012

i would like to start this list with the most important person for me, the charming and admirable, Matt Bomer, aka, Neal Caffrey of White Collar. I have glimpsed of him in Chuck, then White Collar. I was heavily attracted to him that is confusing for someone who's into womyn. This February, the stars have aligned and am confused no more. My beloved Matt came out gay. He did this in a romantic fashion by thanking the love of his life and their kids. See the clip below. Of course! i can only heavily desire a man who is gay! whew! am i glad. :) and i know i am not the only lesbian enamored with him. he is yummy, good, and smart. did i mention he graduated at Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor of Fina Arts degree? yes, he is soo unbelievably delicious you'd think he's bad for you and make you fat. Gush. i love Neal Caffrey, but now i love Matt Bomer more. :)

Matt Bomer, 2012
The 34-year-old "White Collar" hunk thanked his partner Simon Halls and his three children during Saturday's Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards, where he received the New Generation Arts and Activism Award for his work in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

"I'd really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry," he told the crowd.

"Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment."

watch 1:45 onwards :)

Anderson Cooper, 2012
Long rumored to be gay, CNN news anchor and talk show host Anderson Cooper came out in July of 2012 via an email to the 'Daily Beast''s Andrew Sullivan.

Cooper wrote in part:
"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud..."

Jim Parsons, 2012
New York Times scribe Patrick Healy confirmed "The Big Bang Theory" star's sexuality as part of a profile.

The revelation came late in the article, when Healy describes the 39-year-old actor's role in the 2011 revival of Larry Kramer's HIV/AIDS crisis drama, "The Normal Heart."

Wrote Healy: '"The Normal Heart" resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said."

Though the Times didn't identify Parsons' partner, he has been romantically liked with art director Todd Spiewak (pictured).

Anne Burrell, 2012
"Secrets of a Restaurant Chef" host Anne Burrell confirmed she's a lesbian and in a committed relationship with a woman, just days after just days after "Chopped" host Ted Allen made a reference to her sexuality in a radio interview.

"Anne doesn't feel she was outed," Burrell's rep told Page Six. "She has made no secret of her relationship."

The rep went on to note, "Her significant other is a very private woman. They have been together for a couple of years and spend a lot of time together."

Gillian Anderson, 2012
The "X-Files" actress revealed she's had numerous relationships with women in a 2012 interview with Out magazine.

The 43-year-old mother of three, who's long enjoyed a sizable lesbian fanbase, told Out that she first had a relationship with a woman while still in high school, after moving from her native England to suburban Michigan.

"If I had thought I was 100 percent gay, would it have been a different experience for me?" Anderson, who was voted "Most Bizarre" and "Most Likely to Be Arrested" in high school, ponders. "Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It's possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys."

Pentagon To Allow Service Members To March In Uniform In Gay Pride Parade

happy tgif! happy equality! :)

Pentagon To Allow Service Members To March In Uniform In Gay Pride Parade

By JULIE WATSON 07/19/12 07:51 PM ET AP

In this July 16, 2011 photo, two women, both active duty sailors in the Navy who gave their names as Nikki, left, and Lisa, kiss as they march in the Gay Pride Parade in San Diego. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta is thanking gay military members for their service, as the Pentagon prepares to mark June as gay pride month with an official salute. In a video message to the troops Friday, June 15, 2012, Panetta says that with the repeal last year of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law that prohibited.

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — The Defense Department on Thursday announced it is allowing service members to march in uniform in a gay pride parade for the first time in U.S. history.
In a memorandum sent to all its branches, the department said it was making the allowance for San Diego's Gay Pride Parade on Saturday even though its policy generally bars troops from marching in uniform in parades.
The Defense Department said it did so because organizers had encouraged military personnel to march in their uniform and the event was getting national attention.
The move came only weeks after the Pentagon joined the rest of the U.S. government for the first time in marking June as gay pride month and made an official salute to gay and lesbian service members.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta vowed in a video message to remove as many barriers as possible to making the military a model of equal opportunity and said gays and lesbians can be proud in uniform with the repeal last year of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law.
Last year, San Diego's Gay Pride Parade had the nation's largest contingency of active-duty troops participate before the military lifted its ban on openly gay service members. About 200 service members last year wore T-shirts with their branch's name.
Former sailor Sean Sala, who organized the military's participation in the parade, said he wanted service members to wear their official uniform this year to show there is no longer anything to hide.
"My soul is on fire," he said after hearing the news Thursday. "They don't fight in T-shirts. They fight in uniforms. This is about showing who they are."
The Pentagon said the allowance is only for this year's parade in San Diego and does not extend beyond that. Military personnel wearing civilian clothes do not need permission to march in any parades.
The Defense Department policy says personnel cannot march in parades in uniform unless they receive approval from their commanding officers or other Pentagon-approved authorities.
Sala believes there will be no going back after Saturday. He said he has reached his dream in seeing the U.S. military sanction participation in a gay pride parade, as the armed forces have done in Canada and Great Britain,
Uniformed soldiers in those countries have marched down the streets of Toronto and London next to scantily clad men, drag queens and civil rights activists.
"I think across the country we will start seeing active-duty members in uniform march in pride parades," Sala said.
San Diego Pride Executive Director Dwayne Crenshaw called it an historic moment.
"San Diego Pride is honored to have the privilege of celebrating our country and our service members with dignity and respect," he said. "The fight for equality is not over, and it is not easy, but this is a giant leap in the right direction."
Before Thursday, several service members wanting to participate in San Diego's parade were told they could not do so in uniform. Others were granted permission by their commanding officers.
"I think many people thought after `Don't Ask, Don't Tell' was gone, discriminatory things would be eradicated," Sala said. "But now these parades have become a very sticky subject as far as commanders using their own discretion because they are showing either a bias toward a pride parade, or the right view, which this is about recognizing who people are."
Before the repeal, gay troops could serve but could be discharged if they revealed their sexual orientation. At the same time, a commanding officer was prohibited from asking a service member whether he or she was gay.
More than 300 service members have signed up to participate this year in the San Diego parade. It was unclear how many will wear their uniform.
The Defense Department said in its message to the service members that they should adhere to policy regarding behavior while wearing their uniforms.
Service members in uniform cannot appear to endorse or selectively benefit groups or individuals, provide a platform for a political message, or appear to be commercially sponsored. They also must ensure their presence in uniform is not intended to increase sales and business traffic.
Air Force Officer Joanna Gasca was among those who risked marching last year in a T-shirt. Her commanding officer had given her permission to do so this year before Thursday's memorandum was issued.
"It was absolutely thrilling last year to walk down the street," the 47-year-old Air Force recruiter said. "But this year – to be able to march in uniform – wow! I'm speechless."

it started with this:

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., July 11 (Reuters) - A former staffer of Florida Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll said she was fired last year after she caught her former boss and another female aide in "a compromising position" in Carroll's office, according to a court filing. A mother of two with no prior criminal record, Cole was charged in December with leaking taped conversations with Carroll's chief of staff to a Jacksonville newspaper reporter. She could face five years in prison if convicted of the third degree felony.

Carroll, 52, is a Navy veteran who heads the state's military affairs and is Florida's first elected female lieutenant governor, married mother of three children, replied with this:

"The problem is that when you have these accusations that come out," Florida Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll told Tampa 10, "it's not just one person you're attacking. It's an entire family. My husband doesn't want to hear that. He knows the type of woman I am. I mean, my kids know the type of woman I am... Usually black women that look like me don't engage in relationships like that."
this of course outraged the lgbt community. a campaign to show that we are just your everyday janes, just more fab (and not limited to black women). and yes, we engage in relationships like "that", with our body and soul. i think it's called "loving relationship".

anyhoo, check this tag in twitter to see how beautiful we are. here are some of the pix. :)
