eksenang ulan

It ended with a rain scene. All the episodes of Modern Love Season 1 tied nicely together by getting rained on under the same NY sky. Too nicely though in my opinion. Alam mo naman tayo, romantic pero jaded din.

The last time I was drenched by rain, fully clothed, out in public street, was in college. My heart was broken. My boyfriend of two years (pre-g2g), cheated on me and we broke up. Walang drama. I gave back my copy of his apartment key and left.

When the sky stormed days after though, it was like my cue to let all the tears out and have them hide with the rain. While people were rushing for cover or have their umbrellas, ako ay parang baliw na mindlessly walking in the rain, crying my heart out. There was pain. There was numbness. Mapride pa rin e. Parang I needed that cleansing ba to move on. It wasn't immediate as I would have hoped for because our org's tambayan are across each other. But these on-your-face situations and difficult experiences toughen you.

Ang ganda ng love story namin. We met sa bundok, mountain climbing. Ang intense din ng pagmamahalan. Masaya, ang daming adventures and tbh, may mga personal demons to deal with din. College time e. Ang daming pagkilala sa sarili na nagaganap.

Years later when I commented on a common friend's post, he pm'd me in socmed. I did not feel anything at all. Totally no curiosity on what happened to him after we last spoke. I ignored his message and never looked back.

Mukhang effective ang broken heart cleansing sa ulan.=)

my hot siren

my relationship with coffee goes a loong way back. as a kid, i already drink coffee. unhealthy yes, affordable, big yes! :) i would pair hot instant coffee with pandesal. sometimes when available i put milk powder on my coffee. my inclination for latte apparently started from there. hehe.

when starbucks started in manila, i was not an instant fan for obvious reason - its incredulous price! ubos pera. and in my quest to better health, i totally stopped drinking coffee and resorted to milo (no sugar).

when i moved to makati career-wise, i resorted to starbucks for my comfort drink of classic hot chocolate. it didn’t help that the starbucks shop is just beside our office building. one elevator ride, and tadaa! am at starbucks doorstep. hay.

i have this very dear friend whom i fondly call shofatid, who would surprise me at work and sms me that she’s downstairs with some stuff. i’d hurriedly go and see her carrying sandwich and my favourite drink. :) i often miss eating because am very busy. so she knows i need to be fed like that. *she also did the same when i moved to another work*

am not really a heavy coffee drinker. specially when my doctor said that caffeine promotes breast cysts. hello! maliit na nga magkaka-cyst pa di ba?

when i moved to a new work, i was thankful that starbucks/coffee shops are 2 traffic lights away. however, due to the extreme pressure at work, it became a survival trip to go out, get my sniff of polluted air, and have the space outside work to just breathe and regroup. the comfortable distance was, yes, guessed it right. 2 traffic lights away.

i have without guilt started drinking coffee again. i found my workaround via decaf! i cheat i know. hehe. it doesn’t help that i have an overseas colleague who pampers my decaf indulgence via free drinks. mornings and afternoons! lucky bitch right? :)

the truth is, i only drink coffee at Starbucks. i have this favourite drink (hot decaf latte vanilla) which only tastes the way i want it in starbucks. i know this for a fact because i ordered the same drink specs in various shops and the  verdict remains - tastes best in starbucks. no. this is not an ad placement or paid piece for starbucks. they just know my taste.

my fave drink was added with another one (caramel macchiato), that which gf frequently orders. which after being together for like forever, i only discovered a few weeks back. true what they say, a lifetime isn’t enough to know a person. so now i piggyback on gf’s coffee order. hehe.

there was a time gf and i dread going to starbucks. it was there when we broke up years ago. the tears that flowed that day would be enough to fill one tall drink. am glad it’s all over now.

gf and i have frequented starbucks so many times already since then that we only have happy memories from it.

i have this huge mug gift from my foreigner colleague before which my dad kept using so i thought i’d just give it to him. but then it got chipped then in time pulverised so to speak. so i bought him this huge coffee mug from starbucks which is favourite mug since then. :) a friend gave me this stainless coffee mug with cover from the same coffee shop which my mom kept using as well, so i ended giving it to her na lang.

when gf was assigned overseas, one of her pasalubong to me was the starbucks tumbler (?) with the country’s name. so when i went for work overseas, i also gave the same. when i don’t have anything to give for exchange gifts, i’d just dash to the coffee shop and buy a mug. nice and easy. :)

i met a starbucks manager overseas who is a friend of a colleague. close to my birthday in that country, we discussed the starbucks management and why it is very successful in manila compared to their country. as gift she gave me a starbucks shirt. which i haven’t worn yet and can’t remember anymore where i put it. hmmm…

i have a friend who had a plan to surprise a girl by dressing up as starbucks barista and deliver coffee to her. i volunteered my starbucks shirt. :)

in business mags, I’ve read of starbucks many times and how good their management is. like being the only company to offer the highest free/subsidized tuition support to their employees. wow right? :)

recently, gf and i noticed how well made up and pretty the baristas are in general at starbucks. in this mall where we frequent, the pretty barista is preggy. so when i went to this other starbucks shop from another location and noticed the bump on yet another cute barista, i asked if makeup is part of their training. and she said it’s considered part of their uniform. whoa! how interesting and creative. that is what i pride with manila baristas compared to other countries i’ve been to. we look way better. feeling close, i further said that many baristas i see lately are preggy, looking at her bump. and she said, err, am not preggy. whoopsie! whattabooboo! i profusely apologised for being so stupid. i don’t want to die of starvation should they ban me from starbucks. i know she got offended in one tiny split second, but just said it must be her apron with her IDs, keys bulging underneath. good thing she took it like a customer service pro. hay. mental note to NEVER comment to any girl that she’s preggy no matter how big the tummy is.

yesterday, gf and i met at starbucks to do some work. she was using her iPad, and i my macbook, facing each other. across me was the transparent glass wall of starbucks where an elevator was located. an old foreigner guy, looking like  ian mckellen was mouthing something, not wanting to stare, i just bowed down and worked on my laptop. gf sat beside me to check on my work (editing her work), she then said that guy just said muy guapa to you. i just gave gf the look. she said, "no kidding, the guy pointed at you, made the gesture to describe your tubas (head scarf) and mouthed muy guapa”. kinda creepy, but katuwa i admit. :)

you can say my relationship with starbucks is longer than that with my gf. :) and so it can’t be that i love something if it doesn’t love or support what i love.

oct. 29, starbucks launched its first lgbt commercial. =) its ceo has openly declared its support to gay marriage last year.

but having an ad for us lgbt is extra whip cream, extra drizzle, extra everything to what starbucks already do to its customers, cutting across markets.

thank you Starbucks for recognising the purchasing power of lgbts. for the open support. and for simply having the drinks gf and i love.

uncomfortable comfort zone

For months I have been resenting my 8yr relationship with my partner. Fun is gone. Every inch of her skin seems familiar. We don’t fight. We have successful careers. We travel apart because of work. We are tolerant of each other. We are so settled that I hate it. Comfort zone is far from comfortable. You know that feeling when you've sat so long in one position in the same chair or have slept so long on your bed that it's like peeling your back off from the bedsheet  with a  zombie stance? That's uncomfortable comfort zone. And again I hate it.

She came back two weeks ago from some south american country after a month-long work, and I was off to another asian country for a few days of work. I went to the mall, checked some stuff I need for the trip, went home not until my legs were so sore, I almost crawled going to the jeepney. Alone in my place I prepped my luggage and once in a while laughed by myself at the tv show I was procrastinating with. Slept 1am. All settled. And then with just a few hours of sleep she rang. And it irritated me. Until she said she's on her way to my place to take me to the airport. Cute. I took a bath. When I went out from the bathroom, there she was cooking fried egg she took from my fridge. She bought hot pandesal, made me hot milo drink and also brought in hot porridge. Breakfast. It’s been a while. I don’t really have time to prepare breakfast thus I rarely eat brekky. So breakfast. Sweet. One thing she has consistently done for 8yrs is spoon feed me. She knows how busy I always am. So in between talks, chores, stuff, she would offer me spoonful of food reminding me I need to eat. And I go quickmelt in an instant.

At the airport, we hugged. And it feels warm and fuzzy in the stomach. We kissed. And shared I love yous. As I walk my way inside the airport, I glanced through the glass wall. There she was waiting. Not leaving till am done with immigration. Once I made it through, I called her. See you soon love.

Fun may be gone. But love never left. I  was reminded that no matter how restless I may at times feel, she's a wife I want to go home to.

side note:
she was supposed to surprise me by going with me on my biz trip. alas, my flight sked was changed and already conflicts with her work. so twas then that she revealed of her failed surprise to me. aww.

What to do with pain?

1. Write about it then throw it to the trash bin.
2. Scream at it. Curse at it until you run out of profanities to use.
3. Hug it until your arms turn sore and numb, then let it go.
4. Share it with someone. Someone who also has it or better yet, to someone who doesn't have it so they can discover how unique yours is.
5. Dress it up in various kinds of similes and metaphors and make a free verse poem about it.
6. Tweet about it, hash tag it, and interact with others in the same hash tag.
7. Paint it in shades of dreary gray and black, brooding blue and brown, then hang it on your wall of memories.
8. Take a photo of it through the reflection on others and all that remind you of it, then frame it done.
9. Bury it in a pot along with other seeds and water with your salty tears. Either it dies or grows into something beautiful or surprising.
10. Put a coin in a jar for every painful thought and feeling. Then donate the collection to charity or those who are needy.
11. Let it pulsate from your heart to your fingers and strum some tunes in your guitar. Until the pain and music collide. Until what's left is the song.
12. Kick it, stretch with it, punch it, dance with it. Add it to the pounds on your weight lifting. Anything physically demanding. Let it energize you instead of bring you down. And then shower it off.
13. Bring it to a race and let it sweat out of you, exhale out of your lungs. Race with it and then leave it at the finish line.
14. Swim, dive with it, and carve it out to the sea with each powerful stroke. Let the waves take it from you and then wash it away from you.
15. Blow all of it in a balloon and then release it to fly with the wind.

Pain still there? Let it be. It will leave once it's ready, or you will leave it once you're over it.

** back story **
someone made me cry months ago. no, someone is not my partner. a few weeks back, I woke up with a literal pain in my chest. and I know this stubborn pain is still there. alone, i tried to cope with it with it with the only way i know how, wallowing in it (for a time, because am congenitally drama queen as you already know), - writing about it.

while i was suffering, i learned that two of my friends from this blog are with their own struggles too. one broke up with a gf of several years. the other, her mom didn't survive surgery. my love and support go with them, though i can't physically hug them. this post is for them (and to all in pain) as much as it is for me.

in these past months, i became cautious, afraid of unintentionally hurting people i care for. i chose to just be mum about things, becoming a passive observer of life. and i felt weak and shriveling (imagine grapes to raisin) because of that. it took a dinner, 2 long back and forth walks along Ayala Avenue and a hug from  my very good friend K (whom i missed sorely) to give perspective of this pain. she said something to the effect that, i  should just be me. me along with my errors, lessons learned, my vulgar, mushy, asshole, emotional, tactless, caring, crazy, etc self. if you haven't stopped reading yet at this point, then maybe you are strong enough to take me and patient enough to understand me.  *group hug!* =)

black is the new luck

remember this tight black dress that i wore for my job interview last year? well, it's still tight and appears to be shorter now. i decided to wear it for work still because i needed something tight to hug my body, to quash any negative feelings, to flatten my tummy and to make my ass look tighter. hehe. seriously though, i needed something to perk me up. the dress got me the job, so maybe it'll do its magic again and give me something really nice.

so in a management meeting, wearing my stilletos that scream, i fashionably kick ass, i confidently sat and presented my deck. my boss questioned some of my entries. a first time. made me appear less super. in front of my team. and other managers. my ego can only mutter ouchie! fukc. fuk. cufk. fuck.

i stormed outside right after the meeting, back to my desk, fuming, quickly grabbed my wheeled and personally cushioned not-so-ergonomic chair, sat and then THUD! whattheF?! my wheeled and personally cushioned not-so-ergonomic chair at arm's length, my butt, missing it by a few inches. my tight sorry ass flat on the carpeted floor! putanaman o! *sorry, poise got crushed from where i fell*

when i tried to stand up, a sound of repeated r's came next... rrrrrriiip. ohno! my back slit! i hurriedly went to the restroom (and for the life of G, please stop calling it bathroom) to asess the damage. on my back, i can see  hint of my undies giving me the tsk tsk tsk look. i tried covering it with my winter jacket (it's THAT aircon cold in the office), but twas met with futility.

i asked for the opinion of our admin asst who has mastered the art of obscene corporate get up. even she mouthed tsk tsk tsk.

so off i went to the nearest clothes store at past 1pm. as i was walking outside the office past lunch time, i bumped into our CIO who gave me the why-are-you-going-out-on-office-hours look. i know it's just early afternoon and no stars on sight the smog covered sky, but i am convinced the stars have aligned to fuck with me the whole day.

i bought this nice printed pants for an incredulous price of P900! and a cheapo tank for P100+. P1k, the price to cover up shame. global warming toasted while crossing the street, i just pointlessly covered my head with my palm. as i was waiting for the traffic red light to shift to green, i envied the girl ahead of me who in all her feminine and poised ensemble was holding an umbrella. i stepped closer as preparation to cross the street. with my makeup melting and my palm covering my forehead from further skin damage, she turned my way and looked at me. smiled (and glowed too), with the sun behind her umbrella and in slow motion effect offered her rose smelling umbrella to me. i shyly (can you believe that?!) stood really close beside her, unsure if i should just hold the umbrella or just let her make a foolish looking girl out of me. we walked, but in my mind we were sashaying to the next street. she asked me which way i will go and turns out we're going on the same way. at that exact moment, the smog filled sky parted and revealed this clear, sunny (okay, scorching) bright sky, the birds started chirping or was it the buses honking? i swear our spirits were holding hands as we continued to walk.

she kept talking to me in English so I figured she's from elsewhere.

"are you Filipino?"
"no, i'm not from here. from thailand"
"oh that explains it. i haven't encountered one in Ayala who shares umbrellas with strangers"
...
"where's your office?"
*points to my office building*
"i live across yours." *tadadaan!*
"are you a BPO consultant?" *many foreign speaking consultants in BPOs*
"no, i'm a data analyst." *omg, she's not only kind, pretty, she's also smart*
"here's my business card. can i get your number? if you don't mind..."
"sure."
*opportunity to get her name*
"what name do i put?" * i could have continued with - to the woman who just saved my day?*
"just put Nina. my last name is very long."
"ok." *giggles* *putsa! anglande!* "'hope we can have lunch or snacks if you're free."
"sure, that would be nice."

i glided back to my office, wearing my new set of clothes, my newly inflated self esteem and my suddenly giddy heart.

i won't deny that it tasted like sweets in the shape of a love story unfolding.

two men and a love

sometimes it is this simple. you find someone you love and want to spend every sleeping and waking moment with that person. you find a love you are so proud and happy of that sharing it, proclaiming it, sealing it is the next unstoppable thing to do.

and sometimes, we get lucky enough to be part and witness of such grand gesture of love. one that is sure and unafraid of whatever social restriction/law or lack of it.

if you love someone, show it. surprisingly, it's that simple. =)

Paolo and John’s Engagement Shoot

Thursday, December 13, 2012

Paolo and John are getting married today.

I’ve said it before about shooting weddings, we’re probably not going to change the world doing what we do, but we try to capture everything that is right and good about it for two specific people on one specific, special day. What we do matters to these people, and these photographs will be kept and treasured by their families forever. I’m not sure if covering Paolo and John’s wedding will change how some people still insist on narrow-mindedly seeing the world, but I do know that my husband and I will witness and document a union of two people in love with each other today. It’s as simple and wonderful as that for us, and really, what it’s all about.

I feel almost protective of these two. I have a son, and if he turned out to be gay, I would certainly hope he would be allowed to marry whomever he loves. I want him to see that when you love purely, honestly, with all your heart, and when every fiber of your being just sings with it, when you have found the one you want to spend the rest of your life waking next to, you can.

starting over

last year (yes, am still talking about last year. call me nostalgic yeah?),  several things happened that made me doubt the order of things.

my neighbor closet gay friend broke up with his live-in bf of 2yrs and got committed to a girl classmate from post-grad, with plans of getting married even. he apologized to me because he said, "hindi ko kayang pangatawanan ang pagiging ganito. gusto ko magkapamilya... blah..blah..." fine. i did argue that gays can have families too. anyway. a college student neighbor of ours again whom as a young kid already showed his swag as a young gay, recently had himself a gf too! and has been broadcasting to the fb world of their every date/activity as a couple (which made me quickly look for the unsubscribe feature). AND then last December, few days before Christmas, an ex-colleague (female) of mine who used to have gf of 4-6yrs and professed how they are destined for each other, just got married. with a guy. ugh. my world turned upside down and felt apocalyptic already. these signs freaked me out. good thing a lez friend of mine got legally married with her partner of 10yrs. suddenly, the world is right and i feel good.

many things change, from the physical to the emotional to sexual up to spiritual. it can't be helped. but at the very core of these changes one thing doesn't and continues to be universal, it's love. we all love. whether it's from the bottom of our hearts, at the top of our lungs, head over feet/heels, or from the hypothalamus, we love.

and amid the pain, disappointments, it still feels good to love. tirelessly. we may pause, and it's okay. then resume, start anew. just like this new year of starting over.

so to keep the love alive and the good vibes going, let me share you this very special video that is guaranteed to make you sigh, cry, sniff, hope, love. please have your tissues/hanky ready.

super thanks to KM for sending me this link. i love you friend! :)

Thank you Expedia for producing this video. It means a LOT! :)

the Leap that Lifts

i had to pause for a moment to let it all sink. a friend of mine made The LEAP. literally and figuratively. at first, i replied to the news like any good news. but after sending my reply email, the magnitude of what they did, slowly sunk in my busy head. in between projects and timelines, mygawd! THEY DID IT! a lesbian i personally know really, legally, got married! W-O-W! overwhelming. geez. am losing my mind. wait, lemme pick up my scattered brain. she was kind enough to email me about it for I haven't checked fb in a loong while. =)

theirs was a decade-long life of love and all the challenges that go with relationships. they're both amazing, talented, smart, cool, and beautiful. how good can it get right? I only have one selfish thought, that I could also have what they have. =)

when I saw their private wedding pictures, i was awashed with tears and joy.  no eloquence of big, flowery words needed. they are happy.

*boo-hoo! sniff. sniff. here I go again, crying and emotional, like am the parent who gave away the bride. Haha*

no romantic movie can beat this. because this one's real. and legit. i cannot stress it enough. two wonderful filipino womyn i know got legally married to each other. the world suddenly feels right. and i am happy. =)

theirs also go with a cool soundtrack =)

*i have peppered this post with smileys if you notice.
happiness cannot be contained.
it bursts!*

Thank You for the Inspiration! =)

Ang Ikaklit sa Aming Hardin , lez-themed kiddie book is OUT!

remember this post about the first ever children story in the Philippines with lesbian parents in the characters and the theme? many of you expressed that you want to buy once available. well, happy news! the book is OUT!

Two women Tie the Knot in Taiwan

while i was busy with my work turnover, THIS happened. =) as the Dutch proverb says, "When a door closes, a window opens." For their case, even though there is no same sex marriage law yet, who says they can't get married if they want to?! truly! LOVE FINDS A WAY. tayo nang magbakasyon sa Taiwan! *let's go visit Taiwan!*

"We decided to get married last year," Huang told Agence France Presse July 11, 2012.
“After being together for six years, we feel we need to make a life-long commitment to each other.”

and they did!

Lesbian couple celebrate Taiwan's first Buddhist same-sex  wedding

TAOYUAN, Taiwan – Two women tied the knot on Saturday, August 11, in Taiwan’s first same-sex Buddhist wedding, a move rights groups hope will help make the island become the first place in Asia to legalize gay marriage.

Fish Huang and You Ya-ting , who have been together for seven years, exchanged vow and prayer beads instead of rings at a monastery in Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, accompanied by chants from nearly 300 Buddhists.

Shih Chao-hwei, a Buddhist master and university professor, offered to perform the ceremony herself after the couple approached her to ask if their faith condemned homosexuality.

“We are witnessing history. The two women are willing to stand out and fight for their fate… to overcome social discrimination,” said Shih, a well-known advocate for social justice.

You Ya-ting, left, and her partner Huang Mei-yu stamp their names in front of a statue of Buddha in the prayer hall as they are married in the first Taiwan same sex Buddhist ceremonial wedding in Taoyuan, Taiwan, Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012. Taiwan still does not legally recognize same sex marriage.

“Some people might find it astounding [a woman performing the ceremony] but Buddhism does not engage in ideological struggles and I am used to strange looks from my own experience in the social movement,” she said.

 colorful as their love :)

The couple’s parents were notably absent from the ceremony, in an indication of the pressure facing some homosexuals and their families.

“Our parents initially agreed to attend and they regret that they couldn’t be here. We understand that people have different acceptance of media exposure and we want to give them more space,” Huang said shortly before the wedding.

“We hope with the master’s support, the wedding will change many people’s perspective even though it is not legally binding,” said the social worker. “We hope the government can legalise same-sex marriage soon.”
Taiwan is one of the most culturally liberal societies in East Asia, and gay and lesbian groups have been urging the government for years to make same-sex unions legal.

Aiming to create awareness about the issue, about 80 lesbian couples tied the knot last year in Taiwan’s biggest same-sex wedding party, attracting about 1,000 friends, relatives and curious onlookers.

Fish Huang told the Taipei Times last month: 'We are not only doing it for ourselves, but also for other gays and lesbians.'

The first public gay marriage in Taiwan took place in 1996 but this is the first known Buddhist wedding.

Gay rights groups are pushing for President Ma Ying-jeou to legislate for same-sex marriage and to allow gay couples to adopt before his term ends in 2016.

thankful

to the womyn who passed the test
and won me over.
thank you for not giving up.
for loving me even if it hurt,
even when it's not right.
i love you.
and i commit myself to you.

*all the happy love songs are for you*

Swept Away
Christopher Cross

I never had anything happen so fast
Took one look and I shattered like glass
I guess I let it show
'Cause your smile told me you knew

That you're everything I ever wanted at once
There's no holding this heart
When it knows what it wants
And I never wanted anything more than to know you

I was swept away
No one in the world but you and I
Gotta find a way
To make you feel the way that I do

I was swept away
Without a warning
Like night when the morning begins the day
I was swept away

And so it begins
This journey of love
The summer wind carries us to places all our own
The words of a look

The language of touch
The way that you want me means so much
And I never wanted anything more
Than to love you

I am swept away
No one in the world but you and I
Gotta find a way
To make you feel the way that I do

I am swept away
Without a warning
Like night when the morning begins the day
I was swept away

Away, seeing my tomorrow's in your eyes
I was swept away

Oo, I hope I wake up soon
Oo, I'm a victim of that crazy moon

The very first time you said my name
I knew it would never sound the same
Something about me has changed forever

Can't you see I am swept away
No one in the world but you and I
Gotta find a way
To make you feel the way that I do

I am swept away
Without a warning
Like night when the morning begins the day
I was swept away

Away, seeing my tomorrow's in your eyes
Gotta find a way
To make you feel the way that I do
I was swept away

Without a warning
Like night when the morning begins the day
I was swept away
We were swept away

Dreaming of you
Swept away

the break that connects

studying in front of a computer is really proven to be wrong. well, unless you're studying computer-related stuff of course!

with people dying and getting cancer left and right, i have deemed it necessary to finalize my stand on life and death and faith (let's call it ladaf). so that in case it's my turn, i'd know whether to ask people to pray for me or just continue drinking my whatever organic concoction until i cease to exist. to do that, i need to understand first the many thoughts on ladaf. many times, things happen to me by chance. in the office, i chanced upon this Time magazine cover story, Rethinking Heaven.

it provided interesting and contemporary ideas of heaven to the shock and disapproval of the dogmatics am sure. then one fine National Bookstore Day, saw this book.

twas hardbound, therefore pricey. i was torn whether to buy it or just look for a paperback version. i went to the customer service lady and she said it's the LAST copy. mygawd! talk about pressure! so i admit, i am weak, most specially with books (as to some women are into shoes/bags). so with closed eyes and a gulp, i bought it at P595. ouch. ilang meryenda na naman ang iiskip ko. ohwell.

i am now on page 57/192. it is something you don't read in haste. it is something i read carefully and mark specific passages. it has been my recent commute and bedtime pleasurable companion.

okay, at this point you may wonder where my interview preparation/studying comes in. after all, andito ang katuparan ng mga pangarap ko so to speak.  i have the perfect explanation don't worry. hehe. i have inserted in the book my review notes. haha. that's why i have this philo book in front of me while studying for the interview and everywhere i go for that matter. hehe. i don't know with others, but i simply cannot do away not doing the things that give me joy. as they say, love finds a way. hehe. it's involuntary.

i took a break from reading, went online.

this is the first post of the blog http://twobirdsnest.com/

My smoking hot wife Tan and I got hitched on Friday 9th March 2012! Some people questioning why we wanted to do this? Mostly because it’s not legal in Australia!… But to us, it not being legally recognised didn’t mean it wasn’t REAL! Falling in love and wanting to grow old with someone is the same in any relationship – gay, straight, whatever… we all want the same thing, LOVE and COMMITMENT.

what a great coincidence that their wedding day is the same as my birthday.  and that my blah post's last  part was about their first blog post, commitment.

how things unknowingly tie up together. and how connected we all truly are. =)

"Life is not about making others happy.
Life is about sharing your happiness with others."

happy sunday! =) now back to studying. hehehe.

my blah

Sometimes I think my thoughts/opinions are antagonizing. I was with a group recently. They are talking about topics related to their pasts and on infidelity stuff. I care for these nice people, but I feel detached on the discussion. Maybe am too jaded. Maybe I really am an antagonistic person. Or maybe I simply just have ADD. Haha.

For example, people talk about love. And I blurt out, love doesn't exist, only self interest. I've read about it in college from a book I borrowed from my teacher. And if you think about it, all actions we do, someway or another, we want it, we benefit from it, we derive some joy/satisfaction from it, even if we hurt from it. Like if you let go of someone because you love him/her and they love another. It's not really a selfless act because making that person happy makes you happy. So in itself that's self interest.

So on this group I got to be with recently, there was this debate about infidelity. Like if your partner commits infidelity, will you still forgive her or end the relationship. One argued that trust is the foundation of a relationship. They say once that trust has been violated by your partner, that's the end of a relationship. For me, love is the foundation not trust. We all have human flaws. We make mistakes or sometimes we just commit wrong judgment in a situation. Sometimes, there are moments when we are weak. Maybe that time, you're emotionally down or sexually deprived that led you to succumb to temptation. I recognize that maybe one of the reasons my partner made a mistake was maybe because of something amiss in the relationship. So I may forgive her still, depends on how much I love her. Bottom line, it's not about how big her mistake is, but how big my love for her that it can understand her beyond the mistake.

One person further explained that for her, after three cases of infidelity, that's really the end of it. At this point, I couldn't stand it and blurted out exasperatedly, I cannot put a number to the love I have for my partner. It is not the count of the act, but depends on the context of the act (were they drunk, were they naked? did we have a fight, was our relationship rocky to begin with, etc) and the magnitude (was it with my best friend? my sister? Omg, my mom? Don't tell me, with my dog??? hahaha).

Besides, how do you define infidelity? Is it the sexual/physical involvement or the emotional betrayal? In some gay couples I know, sexual contact with another is permissible since they acknowledge that they are sexual beings to begin with. A girl asked, what if she kissed somebody else, will you accept that? And I asked, kissed where? Hahaha. That's where it gets tricky. If it's the lips, it denotes intimacy, not just physical/sexual, so she said, so long as it's not the lips. So if your partner kisses or gets kissed in her vaj, you okay with that? If you ask me, both pairs of lips are very intimate. I cannot kiss someone there unless I love that person. But I do admit that in my egotistic imagination, I can, just to show off how great a kisser I am. So it's power, ego, pride, not love IF ever.

In the weekend tv interview of an 80s actor William Martinez, he poured out that, he was married for 25 yrs. When he committed to that love and marriage, it was forever. He gave up his career for that woman. But after 25 years, his wife, fell out of love. She outgrew him she said. He drank away his misery, got stroke, survived and now lives alone. The interviewer asked, will you still fall in love? He answered, "I loved for 25 years and nawala pa rin. How can I fall in love again? Hindi na."

Somehow, this stirred something in me. Marriage. zpeople commit with someone for the rest of their lives, in sickness and in health, in happy and sad times, in wealth and in poverty (something to that effect). My question is, how can one actually commit to that? To commit to something long term and unknown? Is it false commitment? Or a vow based on something you want to do, but don't know if you can really commit to? It is romantic to believe and to speak of forever after, for the rest of my life kind of stuff. But realistically, is it fair to promise forever/rest of your life with someone knowing the uncertainties the future may hold? "Everything exists in a state of permanent flux of change." Heraclitus said that sometime before 475 BC. It's 2012 and still rings true.

All of us change. We grow, regress, age. We learn, not always form past mistakes, but sometime we just learn new things as we grow and age.

Marriage is costly and impactful, financially, emotionally. I'd like to be married one day too, but I have yet to reconcile those thoughts first.

If you get married once (that's the initial intention) that will stand up to one's deathbed, there is a tendency to be complacent. After all, the contracts have been signed, so dammed if I do, damned if I don't. You're stuck, unless you have enough money, energy and evidence for annulment or divorce just in case.

And here comes the crazy idea, what if we make marriage a yearly thing. A contract that's renewable yearly. That will force the couple to re-assess the relationship and have the opportunity to face issues more regularly instead of letting the gripe pile up until they erupt and the damage is irreparable. Since it's kinda frequent, and can be very expensive, couples may rather choose to focus on the seriousness and intimacy of the ceremony and what their vow stand for, not the showbiz part, outside the vows.

I told you, crazy. :D

my heart is upside down. and my view is skewed.

you.

Sunday morning rain is falling
Steal some covers share some skin
Clouds are shrouding us in moments unforgettable
You twist to fit the mold that I am in
But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do
And I would gladly hit the road get up and go if I knew
That someday it would lead me back to you
That someday it would lead me back to you

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave

Fingers trace your every outline
Paint a picture with my hands
Back and forth we sway like branches in a storm
Change the weather still together when it ends

That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave

But things just get so crazy living life gets hard to do
Sunday morning rain is falling and I'm calling out to you
Singing someday it'll bring me back to you
Find a way to bring myself back home to you

And you may not know
That may be all I need
In darkness she is all I see
Come and rest your bones with me
Driving slow on Sunday morning
